Historic District Deck

This project is located on one of the prettiest streets, Garfield Place, in the heart of Park Slope Historic. Like many two-family brownstones, this building was configured with a garden level rental unit and an owner’s triplex above on floors one, two, and three. With the triplex kitchen located on the second and facing the rear yard, the owner desired outdoor space. The new deck was situated above an existing two-story rear yard extension and accessed through a former window converted to a full height door. However, the door was intentionally placed as far from the deck as possible and connected to it with a structural glass bridge affording a sense of procession and movement. The deck is clad in Ipe, a South American hardwood known for its density and fire resistance.
